The only thing they are truly lacking without Enigma besides being able to quickly jump through walls and over gaps would be the ability to easily reposition the Mercenary. They also seem about as fast, if not faster than either of my Sorceresses at clearing the Pit and Cows as well. Without an Infinity, name a faster class for actually clearing the Chaos Sanctuary. Oh, and the Maggot's Lair sucks for hammers, but fortunately there aren't really any other areas like that.Īnd they can farm just fine in certain areas without Enigma (people need to stop acting like the build is crippled without one), but just like the Blizzard Sorceress, they're kind of stuck in niche areas to actually be good at it. Although after you get used to "kissing" those solitary and annoying casters usually, it's not really a problem. The biggest downside about playing the class, even with decent gear is the occasionally awkward positioning requirement. If that's true, then I doubt you'd even consider any of the other classes anything more than chained to the ground. They really aren't slow at all, unless you think the fastest moving class without teleport who can clear faster than any non-Sorceress and Javazon (sans lightning immunes) is "slow". I agree with most everything you've said about them, except not really them being "slow".

If I were you, I wouldn't spend too much time trying to figure out how to make farming work on a character that really only shines with access to teleport.

However, hammerdins specifically take quite a bit of finesse to play safely without teleport: it's boring, slow, and a bit counterintuitive to boot, which is why I don't understand recommending this build to someone who doesn't have another character to farm out enigma (or something worth enigma) for their hammerdin. Hell, these defensive stats are probably suitable for hardcore play.

Similarly, your gear is more than enough to clear hell if you have positive resists, >0 fcr, max block and almost 1k health. Builds that I would call "not real builds" do actually need gear to progress through /p1 hell at any reasonable speed because they don't do enough damage, but hammerdins do frankly excessive mounts of damage. Hammerdins are firmly in the "real build" category, which means that if you know what you're doing /p1 hell isn't a problem. I'm not contradicting myself I'm trying to avoid saying that you can beat this game naked and blindfolded on softcore if you know the game well enough.
